Ash Wednesday Mass

Ash Wednesday Mass

On Wednesday 22 February, we welcomed The Right Reverend Dom Cuthbert Brogan OSB, Abbot of Farnborough, who presided at our Ash Wednesday Mass.  This Mass celebrates the start of the Lenten season.  Lent is a time of reflection and the 40 days during which Christians prepare for Easter.  This preparation involves fasting, prayer and almsgiving.

Abbott Cuthbert spoke of the various tasks that keep Farnborough Abbey busy, such as looking after their honey bees.  The bees are becoming busier as we now welcome Spring - a vast contrast to this time that Christians dedicate to slowing down, refocussing and taking stock.

During Lent we encourage one another to use our time in ways that make a difference in the greater community, such as to those affected by the devastation in Turkey and Syria.  As a community, we continue to hold the people of Syria and Turkey in our thoughts and prayers.
