Charity Appeal

A big part of life at Farnborough Hill is the sense of community.  Pupils, staff and families are always eager to help support those less fortunate than themselves and those in times of crisis, whether that is close to home or further afield.  The generosity and empathy shown is truly heart-warming.

During this Lenten season, what better time to focus on those who need our help?  Between now and Easter, the pupils and staff will be throwing themselves into supporting some fantastic causes, and we are calling on our wider community to show their wholehearted support for the initiatives taking place throughout the month.  Any amount you can donate is gratefully received and even small amounts all add up, so think about whether you can forego your daily Costa treat (other coffee shops are available!) for a worthy cause.

24 Hour Sport Challenge

Some 28 of our Year 11 athletes will be taking on an epic sporting challenge in aid of Comic Relief and the House charities: a 24-hour endurance challenge.  Working in teams, the girls will keep six pieces of exercise equipment (either bikes or cross trainers) moving at all times throughout the 24 hours from 9.00 am on Friday 18 March (Red Nose Day) to 9.00 am on Saturday 19 March.

Help keep the wheels turning by donating to their challenge here: Farnborough Hill 24 Hour Sport Challenge (simply choose which charity you would like to support once you click the team link).

They will also be supporting the Roantree House charity, Yes-J, which does not have a JustGiving page.  Instead, donations for Yes-J will be allocated from the collection buckets and activities happening on Friday.

Ukraine Appeal

Conscious of the unfolding humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, a team of staff, JLT members and Sixth Form students has come together to discuss how best to support the Ukraine Appeal through the Disasters Emergency Committee.

Anais (L6SUT) has summed up beautifully the motivation behind this and urges your support, however big or small.

"With each day bringing more news of the suffering being experienced by people in Ukraine, many in the School have felt a need to take action.  In addition to prayer, we are focused on a fundraising effort.  A JustGiving page has been established, through which donations will go to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.  We have chosen this particular charity because it is linked to 15 UK-based charities, including CAFOD, ChristianAid, tearfund, Islamic Relief, Oxfam and the British Red Cross which are coordinating the vital support effort where it is needed most.  Thank you in advance for your prayers and generosity."

Donations can be made via the JustGiving page.

Sixth Form Charity Week

Monday 21 March - Friday 25 March is Sixth Form Charity Week.  The activities organised by the sixth formers will be in aid of the DEC’s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal and Rape Crisis England and Wales.

Monday – Blue and yellow-themed non-uniform day

Tuesday – Reveal the Secrets Magic Workshop

Wednesday – Sweet Treat Sale

Thursday – The Masked Singer

Friday – Staff Car Valet

As you can see the girls will be working extremely hard to earn your charitable contributions.  We would encourage all pupils to come along and support their events; the staff car valet is a huge hit with mucky (and very busy and hard-working!) teachers and we envisage The Masked Singer being a sell-out show.

My Fair Lady

Those who managed to secure a ticket to one of the incredible performances will have spotted we used the show as an opportunity to support Shelter.

Given the themes within My Fair Lady, the logical choice from the outset was to help a charity which offers accommodation and support in moving from a life of homelessness and back into a more normal way of living.

The School is donating £2.50 from every programme sold to this great cause, and we thank everyone who also made donations on the performance evenings.  The grand total will be announced soon.
