This year, like with everything else, we had to move our Junior Leadership Team elections to a virtual platform, from recording hustings videos to interviews via Teams. We are delighted with how all the applicants handled this shift in processes; it was a hugely competitive field but we are thrilled to introduce the stellar new team: Eva (Head Girl), Emilia (Deputy Head Girl), Libby (Deputy Head Girl), Caitlin, Charlotte, Danni, Ellie and Emily. Each JLT member has written a short paragraph to introduce themselves.
Eva - Head Girl
I am studying Biology, Psychology and Philosophy and Ethics at A level with the aspiration of completing a Philosophy degree at university. In my free time outside of school, I have participated in ballet competitions and I enjoy playing piano. I am currently working towards taking the Grade 8 examination. Over the last few months, I have also started walking more frequently in preparation for the Gold DofE expedition, which I am completing with school.
Some of my fondest memories of my time at Farnborough Hill have been made through participating in as many of the school’s clubs and extracurricular activities as I can. My advice to anybody joining the School would be to engage in as many parts of school life as possible. Because of this, I have been able to meet other girls with similar interests and play a more active part in the Farnborough Hill community. The cliché, ‘the more you put in the more you get out’ has definitely proven itself true in my case at Farnborough Hill.
Emilia – Deputy Head Girl
Being recently appointed as one of the new Deputy Head Girls of Farnborough Hill was definitely a proud moment, not something the girl six years ago in the blazer down to her knees would have ever imagined to happen! I am currently studying English Literature, History and Spanish for A level, and aspire to continue with Spanish at university, potentially combined with Politics, which I hope could lead to a career in the Foreign Office or in international journalism. I most certainly believe that the supportive and nurturing community here at Farnborough Hill has enabled me to become a confident and mature young woman capable of aiming high, something I am eager for all girls to experience during their time here through the spectrum of opportunities offered.
Libby – Deputy Head Girl
For A level I am studying Philosophy and Ethics, Drama and Theatre Studies and Photography. Whilst at school I take part in DofE, Trinity Drama, school productions and help out at numerous clubs for the younger years including Photography and coaching at Swimming Club. Outside of school, I am a qualified swimming teacher and coach children from age four to eighteen. I enjoy my weekly yoga class, swimming and walking my Labrador, Elsie. I aspire to become a primary school teacher in the near future and would like to focus on the Early Years. Farnborough Hill has taught me a real sense of community and as Deputy Head Girl I am excited to give back to our school, creating the same magic for the next generation of girls.
Caitlin
I am studying English Literature, Classics and Psychology. While I am still undecided as to which subject I would like to pursue for a degree, one of my career aspirations has always been to become an author, as I have loved reading since I was little, and would love to be able to create worlds of my own. I’m somewhat of a Disney fanatic, so I also hope to one day work for the Disney company.
Within school, I am a member of the Senior Choir as well as the Recorder Consort, and I aim to take my Grade 8 treble recorder examination this year. I have also earned a PADI qualification in scuba diving thanks to the school's enrichment programme! Outside of school, I do ballet, which I began when I was very little, and judo, which I took up for my Bronze DofE Award and have been loving ever since. As a part of my Gold DofE, I also volunteer in a local infant school, which I thoroughly enjoy.
I am very excited to be on the JLT and to have the opportunity to give back to Farnborough Hill. The school has given me so many brilliant memories, and some of my most treasured friendships have been formed here. I am so grateful for the confidence I have been able to develop as a result of the supportive environment of Farnborough Hill, and I very much look forward to working with all my amazing fellow JLT members.
Charlotte
I am studying Business, Philosophy and Ethics and Drama and Theatre Studies. At university, I would like to study International Hospitality which I hope will lead me to a career as an Event Planner. I am especially excited to be on the Junior Leadership Team as it will allow me to not only give back to the School which has helped me so much over the years, but also to gain some more experience behind the scenes of various school events, such as Busy Bees and Open Afternoons. Farnborough Hill has given me so many fabulous and fun memories and some of my best friendships and I am looking forward to working with my fellow JLT to make Farnborough Hill the most enjoyable place for everyone.
Danni
I am studying Maths, German and Chemistry at A level and I hope to use these to study Chemical Engineering at university. Some of my favourite hobbies include baking and sewing. I discovered these hobbies whilst completing my DofE Award, which I have also really enjoyed. I love going to watch musicals as well!
Whilst at Farnborough Hill I have been involved in various clubs and I enjoyed helping with the production of Beauty and the Beast this year. I am so excited to be a part of the Junior Leadership Team and I can’t wait to work with the girls making up the team this coming academic year.
Ellie
I have always aspired to help out around the School and give back in any way I can, from being on the School Council, a House Rep and Prefect, so being a member of the JLT is such an honour for me. I am currently studying Psychology, Maths and Business, and doing an EPQ on aspects of genetics. I hope to read Psychology at university and, from there, go into intelligence work.
Inside school I love being involved in events and productions, whether that is helping to manage backstage for the Drama productions, directing and producing the Sixth Form Panto or volunteering at Gym Club. Outside school, I am heavily involved in scouting, being both an Explorer Scout and Young Leader, in conjunction with my Gold DofE. I also enjoy sports, especially climbing, sailing and karate.
I would tell my Year 7 self: 'You don’t have to be perfect at everything. All that matters is that you keep trying.'
Emily
I take Chemistry, Psychology and PE for my A level subjects. I love sport and do a lot of it, both within school and outside of school. Inside school, I mostly play netball and outside of school I play cricket and do track cycling. I can also be found in the Chemistry Lab during Chemistry Clinic, eager to help my peers and share my love and knowledge of the subject. In the future I would like to study Chemistry at university with hopefully a year in industry, however, I am not sure what I would like to do after that (although I have thought about becoming a teacher!).
I am exhilarated to be part of the JLT. I think this is a perfect way I can share my love for Farnborough Hill and give something back to the community that has made my school into a home for me.
