Model United Nations

Nine of our Year 10 girls did a fantastic job at representing Farnborough Hill at the Model United Nations Conference at Magdalen College School in Oxford at the end of last month.

Following several weeks of research and preparation, the girls were up against 25 other schools who were representing 44 members of the United Nations. They were representing Colombia on issues involving Human Rights, Health, Politics, Economics, Disarmament, the Environment and Historical cases. The girls had to hold their own and present resolutions to various issues, as well as form relationships with other countries. They had to learn the etiquette of debate within the United Nations and be confident enough to challenge arguments put forward by other countries. On Sunday, the teams were challenged with an emergency issue for them all to debate and provide a solution to; involving tensions between the USA and Iran. The girls also heard Professor Eugene Rogan from Oxford University speak on the various crises in the Middle East as part of the Opening Ceremony for the event.

The team enjoyed it so much they have volunteered to coach a team for next year's competition. We are very proud of the whole them - well done girls!
