After two years of virtual and ‘blended’ offerings, we were thrilled last week to be able to host an in-person welcome to the Sixth Form. We were delighted so many Year 11 families and pupils, including those from other schools, came along to hear about our incredible offering, which fully completes a Farnborough Hill education.
The evening opened with an introduction to the various facets of Sixth Form life, with Ms Alexandra Callaghan, Dr Ian Taylor and Mr Craig McCready discussing what students can expect; from strong, proven academic provision (48th in the 2022 Telegraph league tables being our highest recorded ranking), to one-to-one guidance through university applications and the brilliant experiences offered through the Enrichment Programme and more. Current student Aoife (U6MCB) added her voice, sharing a true insight into daily life at the top of the Hill, while Old Girl Amy Addison (2018), who has just completed her fifth year at Southampton University reading Medicine, was delighted to return to reflect on how the Sixth Form at Farnborough Hill propelled her, ready and raring to go, into university life.
Once the presentations were over, the Year 11 pupils, along with their parents, attended subject masterclasses on the various A levels they are considering studying. Led by the Heads of Departments, current sixth formers and Old Girls from the Class of 2019, these talks gave insight into the A level course content and how Farnborough Hill approaches academic discovery. The students were able to add their comments and discuss which university courses they are considering, giving some inspiration as to where this Sixth Form experience can lead in the future. The new Lafosse Sixth Form Centre was a highlight for many, with each group having a break there to explore the other aspects of our unique and challenging wider curriculum.
Mrs Laura Evans-Jones, Head of Year 11 and Senior Teacher commented ‘There was a fantastic vibe throughout the evening, with many families and pupils asking when and where they could sign up!’
Mr Craig McCready, our Head of Sixth Form, added ‘After three years, it was great to see the community come together in person as we talked about our Sixth Form offering and unique approach to Higher Education preparation.’
