Sixth Form Music Student Wins Malcolm Arnold Essay Prize

Annabel (U6CSK) has been awarded first prize in this year’s Malcolm Arnold Essay competition.  Annabel, an A level Music student who hopes to pursue her passion for the subject by embarking on a Music degree next year, wrote a 3,000-word essay on British composer Malcolm Arnold, outlining not only his contribution to the development of Brass music in this country but also his pivotal role in the so-called ‘English Musical Renaissance’.

In addition to a cash prize, Annabel’s essay will be published in Maestro, the magazine of the Malcolm Arnold Society, in October 2024.
