On Thursday 23 February, Cristina (U6MAC) and Imogen (U6MCB) made their way to London Waterloo to begin their Spanish culture tour of London. Cristina and Imogen arrived in London first with the intention to meet the teachers later in the day at a Spanish restaurant before going to see La Casa de Bernarda Alba, a play written by Federico García Lorca and performed by the Cervantes Teatro in London. Lorca was a very famous Spanish playwrite born in Granada at the end of the 19th century and assassinated during the Spanish Civil War. He wrote a multitude of plays which have been performed around the world for over a century.
The sixth formers started the morning with a trip to a Salvador Dalí Cybernetics Immersive experience in Spitalfields, followed by a visit to the Tate Modern to view some of the works by Pablo Picasso. As a part of their A level course, they have to complete an independent research project, also known as the IRP, for which Imogen has decided to do her research on the life and works of Salvador Dalí. Cristina has decided to research Picasso and a particularly famous painting of his, ‘Guernica’.
Going to these exhibitions has allowed the girls to understand the style of their chosen Spanish artist and read in more detail the lives that they led. It was a great experience for them overall.
After meeting the teachers for a quick tapas lunch at a restaurant in Southbank, Cristina and Imogen headed toward the theatre and watched the play from the VIP seats. The play was amazing, well performed and definitely worth the trip as their understanding and appreciation for the play has increased so much.
