Sixth Formers Set Their Sights on England's Hockey Team, Inspired by Alex Danson

We are enormously privileged to say that once again, Farnborough Hill has two immensely talented Hockey players, Hannah (L6WIN) and Katy (L6WIN), who are training hard to be considered to play for the England team.

Each week, we will follow the two students’ training, matches, mishaps and winnings, as they edge towards the trials when they could be considered for the England team.

Those of you who have older sisters in the school, who follow Hockey, or who watched the Olympic games, will know that Alex Danson was our school’s Olympic Gold player and that our Hockey pitch is named after her.  She often coaches and goes to the academy where Hannah and Katy train.

Hannah plays for Wimbledon Talent Academy and Katy plays for Guildford Talent Academy.  They both train twice a week for the academies and compete one match each week against other academies as training for the tournament that takes place in the summer.  The tournament will be in Nottingham in July.  From there, a number of players are selected to go through to the national age group trials.  This is their aim and they work hard to fit in the necessary training as well as commitment to fitness and to diet.  This week, Katy has a torn ligament which will restrict her training.  She also just recovered from a knee injury.  Training at this level comes with risks of this nature.  We hope Katy is able to resume her training as soon as possible and we look forward to news of how the next week has progressed.
