On Friday 24 February, Upper Sixth History students visited the Imperial War Museum, specifically to visit the Holocaust Galleries. The exhibition tells the individual stories of some of the six million Jewish people murdered in the Holocaust, through displays of 2,000 photos, books, artworks, letters, and personal objects.
While the experience was certainly sombre, it was a chance to reflect on the real impact of the History the students had learnt in lessons. It was very insightful for them to see a new perspective, that of ordinary people who had experienced such horrors. The exhibition also focused on moving forward from such a dark time, which was a particularly poignant moment – with survivors and their families not letting their past history define them. On the whole, the experience was incredibly profound, and is something that the students are incredibly grateful to have had the experience of viewing.
