On the hottest day of the year so far, the Hill was festooned with lights and patchworked with blankets as families arrived for the musical extravaganza, Mamma Mia!. Welcomed by the Sixth Form band, who played a host of Abba’s classics to set the scene, guests were able to treat their taste buds with a visit to one of the many street food stalls, before enjoying a host of pre-film games (all to raise money for the House charities). Sponge the Teacher was, as you might expect, the first hit of the evening, with staff including Mr Craig McCready, Mr Joseph Choppen, Mr Alan Rees, Mr Simon Haddock, Mrs Nelle Dalton, Mrs Jackie Munnings and Mrs Claire Drewe all getting drenched. The themed photobooth allowed friends and families to capture a moment to remember the event by, and the talented Young Enterprise teams took the opportunity to sell their wares.
As the sun set, guests lounged back on the Hill, enjoying the feelgood film and soaking in the wonderful atmosphere. All was very serene until Dancing Queen spilled from the screen into real life, with dozens of girls declaring an impromptu dance floor at the bottom of the Hill, which was filled with more and more people as hit after hit was performed by the movie’s stars.
The weather was perfect, the film choice was amazing and the atmosphere was second to none. A huge thank you to everyone who attended, and an even bigger thank you to The Friends for putting on such an event. Let’s hope a new Farnborough Hill tradition has begun.
