On Saturday 25 January, the U14 netball team competed in the Regional Netball Tournament at Wavell School. Fourteen teams had qualified in this age group by either winning or coming second at their county tournament, so the competition was going to be strong.
After playing their six group matches of seven minutes each way against Wellington, Hurst, Oxford High, Dr Challoner's, Stowe and Cowes, the Farnborough Hill team found themselves in 1st place in their group and so through to the semi final.
They faced St Helen and St Katharine in this match and it was a must win if the girls were to progress in the competition. After a slow start they settled and were leading 7-5 at half time. A quick team talk settled nerves and reassured them; they pulled away in the second half and won 15-7, which propelled them to the final and a place at the national finals!
The grand final saw Farnborough Hill meet Hurst to battle it out. Having beaten Hurst by one in the group stages, the girls knew Hurst would want revenge in the final match of the day and would go out hard to try to win. Five minutes into the first half, Farnborough Hill found themselves 6-1 down and really needed to dig deep if they were to make an impact on this game. They did just this and with some excellent shooting and some solid defending, Farnborough Hill battled on and came through to win the game 15-7! An excellent team performance which makes them Regional Champions, and a very emotional moment for all involved - we are so proud of what the girls have achieved.
We wish the team the very best of luck at the National Finals on Saturday 14 March at Stanborough School, Welwyn Garden City.
