There was great joy and excitement on Thursday 17 August 2017 as delighted girls opened their A level results envelopes. Nearly half of all the results were at A* or A grades, with a superb 90% at the covetable A*-C which secures places at the top universities.
Top performers were: with A*A*A* Claudia studying medicine at Southampton, Ellie securing her place to read History at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge and Esther reading Neuroscience at University College London; with A* A* A Souad studying Accounting with Finance at Bath and Olivia reading Theatre and Performance Studies at Bristol; with A*AA, Hannah reading Biochemistry at Birmingham, Charlie reading Biomedical Sciences at St John’s College, Oxford, Anna reading Liberal Arts at Durham and Daisy studying Biology at St Andrews; with AAA, Anoushka C is going to read Philosophy at Cardiff, Eve Geography at Leeds and Anoushka M Biomedical Science at Birmingham.
After opening her results Ellie said, ‘I feel incredibly excited for the future and proud of myself – but mostly surprised! I am elated and so happy to have made my teachers and myself proud.’ Charlie said, ‘The main emotion is relief as I’ve been nervous about today since sitting the exams as they were so challenging’.
There were many other personal triumphs with girls achieving higher grades than they had dared to hope for; a tribute to their hard work, and the teaching at Farnborough Hill.

There was more uncertainty in schools this year with the introduction of new specifications but students at Farnborough Hill need not have worried. The school was delighted to see a 100% pass rate once again, with 47% of the grades at A*/A and an impressive 78% at A* to B. The percentage of A* grades also stayed well above the national average.
Mrs Alexandra Neil, paid tribute to the dedication and hard work of the students saying ‘These girls have a strong work ethic and are dedicated to their studies. This bodes well for university and future careers. Clearly across the board they have been inspired and encouraged by their teachers to follow their dreams; from Medicine to Mathematics and Physics to Politics the girls are making the most of their gifts and talents. I wish them every success and happiness in the future.’
