Advent Carol Service

Advent Carol Service

On Sunday 2 December 2018, following the festive fun of the Christmas Bazaar, we hosted our annual candlelit Advent Carol Service. The service was as beautiful as ever including readings, prayers, music from the choir and congregational carols.  It prepared us spiritually for the season ahead with the lighting of our Advent wreath and a selection of seasonal pieces, reminding us of the true meaning of Christmas.

The choir sounded wonderful in the Chapel’s glorious acoustic as they sang ‘Let all Mortal Flesh Keep Silence’ by Holst; ‘Adam Lay Ybounden’ by Ord, ‘Tomorrow Shall be my Dancing Day’ by Gardner and the ‘Magnificat’ by Brewer (also sung by the choir for Evensong at Portsmouth Cathedral earlier the previous week) and more.   Well done, to the choir and in particular, to the girls who sang solos.

New this year was some special lighting, which, together with the candlelight, accentuated the spectacular architecture of the Chapel and produced subtle changes in colour which enhanced the proceedings and added to the atmosphere.

Thank you to Mrs Nelle Dalton (Chaplain), Dr Ian Taylor (Director of Music), Mr Joe Adams (Organist), Mrs Laura Evans-Jones (lighting), Sister Mannion (Advent wreath), readers, candle bearers, members of the choir, guest singers and all other staff and pupils involved in any way in this special event.
