Advent Carol Service

Advent Carol Service

Our Carol Service, marking the first Sunday of Advent, took place in the School Chapel on 3 December 2017, immediately after the Christmas Bazaar.  Incorporating carols, music, readings and prayers, it was a very special occasion.

The Service got off to a breath-taking start with the Senior Choir entering by candle-light to sing Palestrina's Matin Responsory from the Altar before processing down the Chapel to 'O Come, O Come Emmanuel'.  Gradually candles on the Advent wreath were lit accompanied by scripture read by pupils interspersed with choral items and congregrational carols.

We had a lovely group of girls acting as candlebearers on the Altar.  They were well-prepared for this important task and took their role very seriously, making for a wonderful sight to accompany the music.  Well done to all the girls and staff who took part and worked so hard to make the Service so beautiful.  Thank you especially to Father Tony Sultana who presided over the Service and Miss Shiela Farmer, the School Chaplain, who planned the Service together with Dr Ian Taylor and the Music Department.

The Senior Choir sang the following:

Let all Mortal Flesh Keep Silence by G. Holst
In Dulci Jubilo arr. R. Pearsall
The Heavens are Telling from The Creation by Haydn
The Magnificat by T. Walmisley
Ave Maria by G. Caccini
O Holy Night by A. Adam
A Christmas Blessing by P. Stopford
