Biology Week

Biology Week

Last week, lunchtimes in the Science Department were packed with activities to celebrate the Royal Society of Biology’s Biology week.

On Monday, girls from Year 7 all the way up to Sixth Form baked beautiful biology- themed cakes to compete in the annual ‘Biology Bake Off’. After being judged by ‘Paul and Prue’, the winner of the Junior Section was
Charlotte, Y7, with her detailed ‘life through the seasons’ cake and Hannah and Abi in Y13 were the winners of the Senior Section with their witty ‘Where’s Dolly?’ sheep cupcakes. Finally, Best in Show was awarded to Tabitha in Y7 for her detailed cake featuring a variety of biological molecules and even a microscope.

Tuesday was the day of the Big Dissection, in which Year 7 and 8 pupils got involved with sixth formers  demonstrating dissections of a rat, the heart, lungs, a kidney and a fish.

Finally, on Wednesday, Science Club got creative with a biology-themed ‘art attack’ making animals out of leaves.

Biology Week has been a huge success and we can’t wait to see what the Science Department has in store next year!
