On the evening of Tuesday 13 March 2018, the school was buzzing with enthusiasm and interest when we hosted our biennial Careers Fair for Years 9 and above. We welcomed thirty-seven professionals into school representing a wide range of careers. Many were Farnborough Hill Old Girls, many were young and all were very enthusiastic about their jobs. It gave a flavour of the range of exciting opportunities which exist and are waiting for our pupils in the big, wide, working world.
Our guest speaker was Sara Geater, Chief Operating Officer of All3media, who shared her own career journey, describing how she reached her current prestigious role. After university where she studied Accountancy, she took a job working in finance for a film production company and through this she watched film crews, worked with them, started creating and directing short films and learnt about the process. Several jobs in film and TV companies later, she decided to train in company law. She gained a law degree by going to evening classes, which was impressive and which she loved. The opportunities have been many since then and led her to her current busy, high-profile role. She ended her speech with the words her mother told her, "remember, it is not a rehearsal".
Parents and pupils found it very useful to have the opportunity to talk to so many people from different walks of life. Some comments we received included:
"The range of speakers were extensive from many areas of the “outside world”. They spoke very eloquently and we found them to be extremely engaging. What was also very impressive was that the majority of the speakers were women! A great showcase to our daughter of what can be achieved! "
Of the representatives from Surrey Police: ".... clearly love their job and were so enthusiastic and engaging. My daughter is very interested in the Police now."
