On Wednesday 22 June 2016 fifteen girls from years 8, 9 and 10, comprising four teams, took part in a classical quiz at Sir William Perkins’s school, organised by the Guildford Classical Association. Our four teams competed against teams from other independent schools in a quiz that was similar in style to University Challenge.
Our teams competed with aplomb in the preliminary rounds of the competition, answering a wide variety of classical questions. Our year 8 team and one of our year 10 teams performed so well that they reached the final in their respective age groups. Both teams distinguished themselves in the final, despite being narrowly beaten. Our year 10 team, comprising Emily (10A), Kimran (10B), Ciara (10A) and Maddie (10B), are particularly worthy of mention, having been beaten in the final by the narrowest of margins by a team from Sir William Perkins’s.
