Junior Prize Giving (Thursday 7 July 2016) provided us with a lovely opportunity to look back over the last year and to celebrate the progress and achievements of every girl in Years 7-9. Mrs Buckle gave a review of the year and the speeches of each of the Junior School Year Heads emphasised how individual and very special each girl is and how their hard work, effort and talents all make a huge contribution to the school.
Head of Year 7, Mrs Hooper, praised the girls in her year group for the relationships they have developed during their first year at Farnborough Hill, their confidence when performing and their fund-raising efforts. Head of Year 8, Mrs Harrison, complimented Year 8 on their resilience and their caring natures, particularly in evidence in the way they have shown concern for a seriously ill member of their year group this year. Head of Year 9, Mrs Evans-Jones, drew attention to the ‘little things’ she has observed – friendships, support for one another, encouragement, maturity, good humour and enthusiasm.
Congratulations to the girls who were awarded prizes for academic achievement, contribution to school life and talent in a variety of subjects and activities. Prizes were presented by Mrs Claire Hamilton, Chair of Governors who, in her closing speech, praised all the girls and thanked the staff, with a particularly big thank you to Mrs Buckle on the occasion of her last Junior Prize Giving prior to retirement. Entertainment was provided by the Junior Choir who sang a variety of well-performed and touching pieces which included solos, a beautiful oboe accompaniment and lively percussion.
