The whole school met together in the Chapel on Thursday 28 September for our first Mass of the academic year. The Mass of the Holy Spirit is always a thoughtful experience and sets the school community on the right path spiritually for the year ahead. It was lovely to see so many girls involved, reading scripture and prayers, serving on the altar and singing in the choir. Well done to our 4 senior flautists who played a particularly beautiful arrangement of 'How Lovely are Thy Dwellings Fair' from the Brahms Requiem during Communion.
Thank you to everyone involved, especially Fr Tony for saying the Mass, Miss Farmer for all the organisation and the Music Department for the wonderful singing and music.
Our new altar cloth was in use for the first time at the Mass. Mrs Bond (recently retired teacher of Art) once again created the cloth and here explains a little about it:
"This year's altar cloth is based around the concept of loving one another. The main motif is an interpretation of the Sisters' religious motif of Mary behind Jesus being crucified and is executed in machine embroidery and reverse appliqué. Members of the school community were asked to respond by writing the name of someone they find it difficult to love on tape and this is enclosed between fabric layers in an illegible form. You can make out these shapes if you look closely. It was conceived and executed last term with the help of Mrs Beverley Routledge, and the script is a nod to the work of the artist Tracey Emin."
