Senior Choir Sing in Oxford

Senior Choir Sing in Oxford

On Monday 10 October 2016 the Senior Choir travelled to Oxford to sing in Christ Church Cathedral.  It was an enormous honour and privilege for the choir to be invited to sing in this beautiful and historic cathedral and our students rose to the occasion magnificently.

Music for the service included:

Preces & Responses - Richard Ayleward
Psalm 53 - C. Hylton Stewart
Magnificat - A. Herbert Brewer
Nunc Dimittis - A. Herbert Brewer
The Spirit of the Lord - Edward Elgar (Anthem)

The choir sang this challenging music thoughtfully and accurately, expressing the full emotion and meaning of the words and taking advantage of the wonderful acoustic.  Dr Taylor said "I was very proud of what the choir achieved. Everyone at Christ Church was very welcoming and appreciative and I hope we might be able to go back before too long.

It was particularly lovely to see relatives and friends of the choir in the congregation including a former Senior Choir member, Lauren, who is now in her fourth year at Oxford studying Mathematics.

Thank you to the staff and clergy of Christ Church, to Dr Taylor for organising this visit, to Mr McSweeney for his wonderful organ playing and to Miss Warwick and Mr Thompson for their help and support.  Thank you also to the friends of the choir who sang the tenor and bass parts beautifully.
