Stars of the Stage

Girls from both the Music and Drama Departments had the opportunity to showcase their talents last week at the Musical Soirée and the GCSE Devised Drama examination performances.

Mrs de Mattos reported on the drama:

Last week audiences were enthralled by some powerful theatre from our talented Year 11 GCSE Drama pupils. Working from just one stimulus, provided by the OCR exam board, the brief was to create a unique piece of theatre of 15 minutes. The four pieces considered a wide range of powerful and topical issues from Mental Health, Dementia, Schizophrenia and aspects of Illusion vs Reality. Over the course of 10 weeks the girls worked tirelessly to produce their own pieces of theatre which had been inspired by well-known theatre companies such as Frantic Assembly and Splendid Productions amongst others. The standard was exceptionally high and the girls should feel very proud of all that they have achieved.

Dr Taylor commented on the Soirée:

After a feast of instrumental and choral music making over the last couple of months, the first Musical Soirée of the term took place on the evening of Wednesday 14 November, providing an opportunity for our soloists and smaller ensembles to take centre stage. In particular, our Year 11 GCSE students performed a fine selection of ensemble pieces, including vocal, piano and flute duets. A delighted audience were also entertained by the Guitar Group and the newly formed Single Reed Ensemble, as well as by a range of soloists selected from Year 7 through to the Upper Sixth. Congratulations to all of the girls involved.
