Teen Tech Inspires Year 8 Scientists

Miss White reports:

10 members of Year 8 spent an enjoyable and educational day at Teen Tech in Guildford on Wednesday 16 November 2016. The event aims to raise the profile of STEM subjects and gives pupils the chance to meet real people working in these industries and find out more about careers in these areas. We started the day in the 'Innovation Zone', where pupils were set the challenge of creating a gadget to improve everyday life. After some serious brainstorming, the girls decided on 'Smart Glasses' and then had half an hour to design and market their product. Amélie and Charlotte delivered a pitch and we were awarded the accolade of 'Best Gadget.'

We then spent an hour in the 'Challenge Zone', where we learnt about astronomy and circuits. After lunch, we moved to the 'Insight Zone', where we split into two groups to visit various stands and try out some STEM challenges.

The girls found the day very enjoyable and inspiring, saying it gave them a different perspective and had really changed their perceptions of STEM.
