World Book Day

World Book Day

Students enjoyed a 'mufti' day to celebrate World Book Day this week with many girls proving to be very imaginative and resourceful, dressing up as a myriad characters from Roald Dahl's brilliant books for children. Many staff also rose to the challenge with whole departments coming to school as characters from particular books - James and the Giant Peach (English), Fantastic Mr Fox (Maths and RE) and many more.  The best costumes were awarded golden tickets by their form tutors and these ticket-holders gathered in the Library for a dressing up competition.  The judges (Miss Sexton, Mrs Winch-Johnson and Mrs Wood) had a challenging job due to the very high standard of the outfits.  Winners will be announced at next Monday's Assembly.

The whole week has taken on a Roald Dahl flavour with a whole school assembly celebrating books and reading on Monday including entertainment from the Junior and Year 7 Choirs who performed 3 songs from the musical, Matilda.  There was further entertainment in the Library with quizzes, a themed cake sale and a special Year 7 after-school event.

Profits raised from the mufti day and cake sale will go to Book Aid International whose mission is to work in partnership with libraries in sub-Saharan Africa providing books, resources and training to support an environment in which reading for pleasure, study and lifelong learning can flourish.
