Our shorter week started on Tuesday with a celebration of the 200th birthday of Empress Eugénie. Morning Assembly heralded the start of the festivities as Head of History, Mrs Katherine Bell, made a grand entrance dressed as the Empress in her full 19th-century regalia, to recount her extraordinary journey, from the falling Second French Empire to her decades of residence here at Farnborough Hill.
The pupils enjoyed hearing the stories of her resilience, her deep friendship with Queen Victoria, and her pioneering support for women’s education.
The celebrations continued at lunchtime, featuring a special menu and commemorative birthday cake.
