In a bid to beat the heat, this year’s action began early on Monday morning, with the firing of the starting pistol for Lucy’s Loop and the 800m sending our runners charging down the track. It was great to see that the early hour didn't dampen the enthusiasm of the crowds; the sidelines were packed with girls bringing maximum noise to lift our runners home.
Following a quick pitstop back in the classroom and our final BBQ lunch of the year, the focus shifted to the main Athletics Field for the afternoon events. The boundaries were lined with picnic blankets as parents claimed prime shady spots and everyone enjoyed the treating themselves from a great selection of food vans.
Highlights flew thick and fast, with the audience witness to spectacular displays of long jumps, high jumps, javelin, powerful shot put launches, and hurdle clearings!
The grand finale of the day was, of course, the Staff vs Sixth Form 4x100m relay. Having suffered a rather bruising defeat last summer, the teachers took to the track with everything to prove. In a spectacular twist of fate (and perhaps some strategic stretching), the staff team sprinted across the line and officially restored order!
We owe a giant thank you to the PE Department and our superb sixth formers for organising such a seamless, high-spirited event from start to finish.
Hats off to all the participants, it was the perfect way to wrap up the Summer Term!
