If you love exploring how things work and really delving deep into a project, then join one of our fantastic enterprising clubs.
Highlights include:
TeenTech Club
Our TeenTech Club adds another dimension to the exciting world of digital, science and technology at Farnborough Hill, where Years 7 - 9 pupils participate in this innovative STEM competition. It culminates with the Hampshire TeenTech Festival where pupils investigate coding, robotics, encryption, Generative AI and are able to meet with industry experts from a wide range of companies.
Greenpower
In the Autumn term of 2023, a new and exciting Greenpower Club was launched. Over 20 girls from Years 10 and 11 embarked on the challenge of building an electric race car ready for competing at Goodwood in the Summer Term.
They raced fantastically on the day, beating teams who have been working on their Greenpower cars for years, and have come back to the hill brimming with ideas on how to tweak and refine the car to go faster. They also had the chance to familiarise themselves with various roles within the team, from electrical systems to marketing and sponsorship.
Young Enterprise
Young Enterprise is an integral part of our Year 10 and Upper Sixth co-curricular programme and, each year, we have three or four businesses running. Pupils make all the decisions about their enterprise, from deciding on their company name and product to creating a business plan, managing the company finances and selling to the public at trade fairs, school events and local community markets. All this takes place with the support of a volunteer Business Adviser who brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to each company.
Over the course of the year, we see the pupils grow in confidence as they tackle unfamiliar challenges and problems. Teamwork, problem solving and communication skills flourish as does their ability to be flexible and respond to changing circumstances and situations as well as balance the demands of different stakeholders. Young Enterprise offers the pupils the chance to build on skills that they will need in any future work place, whatever that might be.
Whilst pupils meet on a weekly basis over a working lunch to review progress, make decisions and keep their business moving forwards, company members soon learn that running a business involves much more than weekly meeting. The dedication and time commitment shown by the pupils have helped Farnborough Hill teams enjoy great success against other schools in Young Enterprise competitions locally and nationally – the fantastic businesses started on the hill bring in award after award.
