Girls at Farnborough Hill have the fantastic opportunity to take part in the The Duke of Edinburgh's Award from Year 9 onwards. It’s an opportunity that many enthusiastically embrace, with around half of the Year Group choosing to get involved each year!

We proudly offer all three levels of the scheme: Bronze, Silver and Gold. As you work towards your Award, you’ll take part in a wide range of activities, from developing a new skill or pursuing a personal interest, to improving your physical fitness and volunteering in the local community. A key highlight for many is the adventurous expedition (and the associated practice weekends), where teamwork, determination and a spirit of adventure come together in a truly memorable experience.

Throughout the journey, you’ll build confidence, resilience and independence, while also learning the value of commitment and perseverance. You’ll discover new strengths, form lasting friendships, and gain a real sense of achievement as you reach each milestone. These are experiences that not only enrich your time at school, but also stand out in future applications and opportunities.

Taking part in the Award is often described as genuinely life-changing. It encourages you to step beyond your comfort zone, try new things, and make a positive difference to the world around you – all while having a great deal of fun. And for those who reach the Gold Award, there’s the unforgettable highlight... Gold celebration tea at the Palace, anyone?

During DofE I have grown in confidence and turned my weaknesses into strengths. I have also been able to apply the skills I learnt into other activities.
