Excitement was in the air during Thursday lunch as all five Houses went head-to-head in the highly anticipated annual MasterChef competition, organised by Dutertre House. Representatives from each House in Years 7-10 teamed up to battle it out in the kitchen and bake a delectable mac and cheese and a set of six scrumptious scones.
While everyone received the same ingredients and instructions, creativity reigned supreme. Teams added their own unique twists to elevate their dishes. For the mac and cheese, some opted for classic garnishes like tomato and parsley, while others boldly incorporated them into the sauce for deeper flavour. The scone competition got equally creative, with teams whipping up their own Chantilly cream. Presentation flourished too, with each House highlighting their signature touches - the irresistible golden crisp on the mac and cheese or the delightful burst of strawberries nestled in the cream.
It was a great way to spend a lunchtime, filled with friendly competition as pupils learned new skills and bonded with classmates they might not normally chat with. We would like to give a special thanks to Mrs Anne Griffiths, former Deputy Head and Mrs Anne Goddard, former Head of Food Technology, who generously returned to judge the culinary creations again this year. We would also like to thank Mrs Mimi Fogden and Mrs Beverley Routledge, for supporting the pupils and also Mrs Maria Young, Mrs Laura Evans-Jones, Dr Ian Taylor-Warwick, and Mr Craig McCready, who gave up their time to show their encouragement to the House teams and the pupils.
And the winners are...
Bickford House put up a valiant fight, securing a commendable 5th place. McCormack House followed closely in 4th place. Mostyn House impressed the judges with their culinary artistry, earning a well-deserved 3rd place. Dutertre House, the event's organiser, came in a very close 2nd place!
But the ultimate champions of the MasterChef competition were... Roantree House! With just a single point separating the top two finishers, the competition truly highlighted the exceptional skills of all participating teams.
Thank you to all of the pupils who took part, the judges, staff and especially Mrs Camprubí‑Reches without whom the competition would not have been possible!
