While darkness blanketed the Hill on the first Sunday of Advent, the Chapel was filled with warmth and light as we gathered for our traditional Advent Carol Service.
Holly (U6LAN) opened the service beautifully, her voice carrying through the candle-lit Chapel as she sang the opening lines of Once in Royal David’s City. She set the tone for what was to unfold: the sacred story of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, proclaimed through Scripture readings, reflective prayer and joyous song led by pupils and staff. The Advent candles were lit one by one, each flame symbolising our hope and preparation for the coming of Christ. Fr Robin Farrow, pupils and staff in our Senior Choir, Candlebearers, Readers and Advent Candle Lighters delivered a beautifully prayerful opportunity to pause and be present at a time of year that is both full and hectic.
Following the Liturgy, warming mulled wine flowed, and mince pies and Christmas cake were shared as families and friends enjoyed a blessed evening marking the beginning of the Advent season.
