The festive spirit was truly alive this year as the Farnborough Hill community came together for a spectacular series of events, ranging from charitable fairs and musical showcases to creative competitions and glittering balls.
The celebrations kicked off with the annual Christmas on the Hill, a wonderful afternoon of festive togetherness. The Library was buzzing as visitors queued for the ever-popular bottle tombola and the 'Win Every Time' stall and the Houses laid on a great display for charity. The Friends organised a beautiful array of external vendors selling gifts, homeware and jewellery and our very own Young Enterprise companies had a successful evening touting their wares to all who passed. CAFOD Young Leaders and several other Sixth Form-run clubs engaged visitors in festive games, encouraged by the promise of sweets for participation! Topped off with mulled wine, hot chocolate and ubiquitous mince pies, it was a lovely afternoon ahead of the Christmas Celebration.
The formal Christmas Celebration in the Hall showcased the school’s diverse range of ensembles, from the sparkling energy of the Swing Band and the delicate magic of the Flute Group’s Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy to a powerful collaborative performance of excerpts from Handel’s Messiah. This musical energy spilled over into the school week during the annual Christmas Open Mic sessions, where the Ref came alive with pupil-led rock bands and a surprise appearance by the Staff Choir.
In the classrooms and corridors, the competitive spirit was in full swing with the Winter Wonderland-themed decorating competition. Pupils transformed their Forms into festive masterpieces, with 7A taking the "Judge’s Favourite",9ω and 10α winning "Best Interpretation of the Theme" and 11α being recognised for their commitment to sustainability.
This creativity was mirrored by the sea of seasonal knits during Christmas Jumper Day, which coincided with a magnificent festive lunch provided by the Catering Team.
The celebrations reached a sophisticated peak for the sixth formers at the glittering Sixth Form Winter Ball. Set against the elegant backdrop of the Grand Salon, the evening offered a well-deserved moment of relaxation after a busy term. Following a scrumptious dinner, the girls spent the night dancing and celebrating their hard work. From the youngest pupils in Year 7 to the departing Sixth Form, the entire school community came together to ensure the term ended on a high note of festive magic.
