Junior Prize Giving, which took place on Wednesday 2 July, was a heartfelt and happy celebration of the accomplishments and development of our Year 7 and 9 pupils throughout this past school year.

Beatrix (7B) opened the celebrations for Year 7 with a beautiful violin solo, performing Giga by Michele Mascitti before Mr Scott Temple, Head of Year 7, took to the podium to congratulate the pupils on an outstanding first year at Farnborough Hill.

Mr Temple recalled how the Year Group truly hit the ground running last September, with a number representing the School in sports before the end of their second week and everyone throwing themselves wholeheartedly into co-curricular activities of all types. He went on to describe how, despite some unexpected encounters with eight-legged friends, there was unanimous agreement that Year 7's first residential trip was a huge success and had laid the foundations for a successful year, during which we have proudly watched the girls go from strength to strength. Mr Temple concluded by encouraging the pupils never to stop trying new things, never to stop being curious and, perhaps most importantly, never to stop being the wonderful, unique people that they all are.

Miss Naomi Lynch, Head of Year 9, then gave a moving speech to kick off the Year 9 celebration, reflecting on their numerous accomplishments of all sizes - both big and small. She praised the pupils' tenacity, generosity and increasing confidence and reminded them that the challenges they had faced, friendships forged and successes enjoyed would all combine to help shape them into admirable young women, truly ready to face the years that lie ahead.

We were then treated to a stunning Oboe solo from Alice (9B), whose performance of Romance from Fantasy Pieces for oboe and piano by Carl Nielsen was both moving and technically accomplished, earning warm and appreciative applause from the audience. Her playing was a shining example of the talent and dedication present in Year 9.

The awards were presented by Chair of Governors, Helen Griffiths. Her presence marked an exciting new chapter for the School’s governance and she shared in the celebration with pride. In recognition of the diverse range of abilities and interests present in both Year 7 and 9, prizes were given for exceptional academic achievement, athletic prowess and creative endeavour.

There was a feeling of appreciation as the ceremony came to an end, acknowledging not only the accomplishments of each individual but also the resilience of the Year Group as a whole. It was a fitting close to a year of learning, growth and friendship. As the pupils embark on the next phase of their journey at Farnborough Hill, we wish them all the best as they continue to thrive.
