Our School Community gathered in the Chapel on Monday 10 November for a time of prayer and reflection, commemorating the selflessness of the men and women who served our country during the First and Second World Wars and all conflicts since.
We were honoured to welcome Fr Nick Gosnell, Vicar General of the Bishopric of the Forces and Dean of the Military Cathedral in Aldershot, to lead our Remembrance Service and share his reflections. Drawing on his own experiences from various military operations, he spoke about the selfless sacrifices of fellow members of the Armed Forces, encapsulated in the medals he wears today. He emphasised on the relevance of the past to our society today, and our responsibility as the younger generation to promote peace in our times.
Josephine (11B), Army Cadet Force, Deepcut Detachment, laid the wreath of poppies at the foot of our altar, after marching in with Natalie (8α) and staff, Air Cadet, Woking Squadron. Pupils read prayers and poems. Mr Ingham’s contribution was especially meaningful, given his 20 years of service in the British Army. Our Senior Choir led us in beautiful hymns, and Jessica (11ω), played The Last Post followed by the traditional two minutes of silence. Pupil representatives, Mrs Maria Young, and Miss Li then each lit a candle.
The service concluded with a final reflection from our School Chaplain, Mrs Nelle Dalton, who echoed Fr Gosnell’s central message on the relevance of past conflicts to this generation.
We extend our sincere thanks to all pupils, staff, and wider community who contributed to this poignant and meaningful service of remembrance.
