We are very excited to share that Farnborough Hill has been Highly Commended in the Best Experiential Learning category at the Muddy Stilettos School Awards 2025! This award is given in recognition of our Empower Day, a truly unique experiential learning initiative.
What is Empower Day?
Empower Day is a fantastic example of our girls learning by doing and then reflecting on those experiences. Each year, our Year 9 pupils take the lead in organising and hosting this special event for 150 Year 4 children from local schools. They work in small groups throughout the year, planning and developing engaging workshops, even facing a panel of judges to prove their concepts are the best!
This Year's Empower Day: A Resounding Success!
On Tuesday, Year 9 opened the School doors once again to over 150 eager Year 4 pupils from local primary schools, who were excited to spend the day at Farnborough Hill.
There were a wide range of activities from smoothie-making to drama scene-making, allowing the Year 4s a chance to be creative, have fun with their friends and learn something new. During one of the workshops, Unlock Your Superpower, they were able to build and race their own superhero cars by blowing up balloons to use as the engine while Year 9 girls talked about the science behind it. Our pupils were especially impressed by the designs our visitors came up with, seeing a 'Hot-Dog Hot Wheel' car and even a Batmobile... they also passed the quiz with flying colours!
Empowering Our Pupils for Life
Through planning the workshops, Year 9 learned valuable skills for life, including leadership, group work and time management. It was satisfying for Year 9 to see all their hard work come together and the jumpers covered in stickers; small hands holding prizes and smiling faces were evidence of everything they did to make the day a memorable one. We thank our teaching staff for helping 'Empower' Year 9! As they now know, it's hard work, but incredibly rewarding!
This award is a tremendous credit to the pupils' hard work, innovation and commitment to providing such a valuable and memorable experience for younger pupils.
