Spirits were high at Farnborough Hill as Year 11 pupils collected their GCSE results, with 26% of grades earned being 9s and 8s, and just under half of grades 9 – 7. A superb 96.4% of grades were 9 – 4; a phenomenal statistic which reflects the work ethic of the young women celebrating today.

On an individual level, Isabella D was thrilled to achieve an outstanding 12 grade 9s, which included Further Maths and Classical Greek. Isabella has been a keen member of numerous co-curricular clubs, most notably the Greenpower Club, building and racing an electric car, and was also part of a successful Young Enterprise team. Fellow Greenpower Club member, Maria, achieved a brilliant set of grades as well, earning 10 9s and one 8, while Maëlle secured seven 9s, three 8s and one 7. Jemima F obtained nine 9s and one 7, Molly pocketed four 9s and six 8s, Sophia S seven 9s, two 8s and one 7 and Veni five 9s, four 8s and one 7. Both Maëlle and Veni are known throughout the school as incredible artists, with both having won local and national awards for their creations. Maria will continue her studies at Farnborough Hill as the recipient of a prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarship.

40% of pupils have, on average, added as much as a whole grade to their baseline predictions, demonstrating how a Farnborough Hill education has supported them in achieving beyond expectations; the average Value-Add across the Year Group was an excellent 0.6. Headmistress, Maria Young, was thrilled for all the girls, saying:

“I am so very proud of every single young woman here today who put in the hard work to achieve their very best; they should be, rightly, delighted with themselves. Their tenacity and determination have paid dividends and their first set of public examinations have demonstrated what they can achieve with sustained effort and a great attitude to learning, both of which have prevailed throughout this remarkable Year Group. Their academic achievements have been earned without cost to their wider development: these girls have raced electric cars, completed 24-hour endurance challenges (raising thousands of pounds for charity in the process), put on fun days for local children and sang, danced and laughed their way through the past five years on the Hill. I cannot wait to see them grow further within the Sixth Form – more great things are to come!”

On a subject level, over 50% of candidates entered for Chemistry, Further Maths, German, Greek, History, Geography, Physics and RS achieved a grade 7 or above. The teaching staff and learning environment they create plays no small part in what the girls have achieved today; it is a team effort, parents included, and the sense of pride felt today is shared by everyone.
